We’re excited to share details of another major milestone in our commercial pipeline: WD HydroTech was selected, following a competitive tender, to supply a 100kW electrolyser for a flagship demonstration at the Net Zero Research Village (NeRV) in Gateshead, led by Northern Gas Networks (NGN). The project is scheduled to begin installation in 2026.
This outcome follows a tendering process run in partnership with the Energy Innovation Centre in Spring 2025 — a strong validation of our approach to solving long-standing challenges in green hydrogen production.
What This Demonstration Will Deliver
NeRV is the UK’s first combined research, development and demonstration facility covering gas, electricity and water. This makes it the ideal environment to showcase WD HydroTech’s technology in a real-world whole systems setting.
Our 100kW electrolyser will support NGN’s objective to explore how decentralised green hydrogen generation can contribute to the UK’s roadmap to Net Zero. The system will undergo a comprehensive evaluation, focusing on:
Efficiency and reliability.
Integration within multi-vector energy systems.
Operational suitability for community-scale applications.
Contribution to hydrogen activity as part of the broader whole systems research portfolio at NeRV.
Letter of Intent and Partnership Status
NeRV has issued a Letter of Intent confirming:
WD HydroTech has been selected to supply the electrolyser for installation in 2026.
Our technology stood out for its approach to improving on current market solutions.
We are an active member of a broader consortium, led by NGN, applying to Ofgem’s SIF programme for additional hydrogen-focused work.
Both parties look forward to ongoing collaboration and knowledge exchange throughout the project.
This partnership reinforces our position as a technology provider capable of delivering value in both commercial and research-led environments.
Why This Matters
This project gives WD HydroTech a high-visibility demonstration at one of the UK’s most respected decarbonisation facilities. It provides:
Real-world operational evidence at TRL 5–7
A platform to showcase our system to utilities, policymakers, and industry decision-makers
A strong reference site for future commercial deployments
Strategic alignment with the UK’s regulated-gas innovation ecosystem
We’ll continue to update you as we progress toward installation in 2026 and advance our role in the UK’s emerging hydrogen infrastructure.
