Hydrogen presents a powerful opportunity for the UK agriculture sector to cut costs, improve resilience, and reduce carbon emissions.

 

With many farms already investing in onsite renewable energy sources like solar or wind, green hydrogen offers a way to store this energy effectively – converting surplus power into a versatile fuel. This hydrogen can then be used to run farm machinery, fuel HGVs and tractors, or power backup generators, providing a clean alternative to diesel and securing energy independence in rural areas.

Beyond fuel, hydrogen supports circular farming systems. For example, when paired with anaerobic digestion, farms can produce biogas, generate electricity, and convert any excess into hydrogen, unlocking new revenue streams.

 

By embracing hydrogen technologies like our compact H2G system, UK farms can diversify income, decarbonise operations, and play a key role in the national move toward net-zero – all while staying competitive in an evolving agricultural landscape.

Hydrogen is emerging as a cornerstone of the future road transport ecosystem, especially for heavy-duty applications where batteries fall short.

 

In sectors like buses, HGVs, and fleet vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells offer fast refuelling, long range, and high payload capacity – making them ideal for intensive commercial use. Our H2G technology supports this transition by enabling scalable, onsite hydrogen production and compression, making it easier than ever to deploy or supply hydrogen refuelling stations.

One powerful use case is "return-to-base" logistics, where commercial fleets like buses or delivery vehicles refuel at a central depot at the end of each day. With H2G, operators can generate green hydrogen directly from onsite renewables, compress it for storage, and dispense it locally – cutting fuel costs and emissions, while avoiding dependence on large-scale hydrogen infrastructure.

 

From urban bus depots to distribution hubs, our system helps fleet operators take control of their energy supply and accelerate the shift to clean, zero-emission transport.

Water treatment and aquaculture make use of the pure oxygen generated, creating added value.

Hydrogen production isn’t just about clean energy – it also creates valuable co-products, and in sectors like water treatment and aquaculture, this can be a game changer. Our H2G system not only generates green hydrogen, but also produces pure oxygen as a byproduct of electrolysis. In water treatment, this oxygen can be used to improve aerobic digestion processes, support biological treatment systems, and enhance wastewater purification – leading to increased efficiency and reduced chemical usage.

In aquaculture, dissolved oxygen is essential for healthy fish stocks. By producing pure, on-demand oxygen onsite, H2G systems help operators eliminate reliance on bulk oxygen deliveries or costly generation equipment. The hydrogen can simultaneously be used to power farm equipment or fuel backup systems, creating a dual benefit that supports both operational resilience and environmental sustainability. Together, hydrogen and oxygen from H2G offer a compelling solution for future-proofing these critical sectors.

Across the UK, an increasing volume of wind energy is being curtailed — that is, wind farms are asked to switch off or reduce output because the grid cannot accept all the power being generated.

 

In 2024 alone, around 8.3 TWh of UK wind energy was curtailed, costing consumers over £390 million. That’s nearly 10% of total wind generation last year. This means significant “wasted” clean energy that could otherwise be used.

Our modular H2G system offers a compelling solution to this challenge.

 

By converting excess renewable electricity that might otherwise be lost into green hydrogen, we create a flexible storage and energy vector.

 

The hydrogen can then be stored, used later, or fed into transport, industrial, or heating applications. In effect, H2G turns curtailment from a cost into an opportunity—unlocking value from otherwise wasted clean power and helping the UK grid absorb more renewables securely.
